The People Bank Ottawa Branch is currently recruiting for a Trade and Policy Analyst
Must have relevant work experience
Bilingual in French and English (minimum conversational French required)
Responsibilities
• Conduct research and develop models to analyze, explain and forecast agriculture trade flows and patterns, and devise methods for collection and analysis of data.
• Analyze production, consumption and trade data for specific commodities and assess impact on the Canadian market and the evolution of trade negotiations.
• Research and monitor trade and agriculture policy issues for selected countries and assess impact on Canada’s
• Monitor trade and economic data to assess the effectiveness, and advise on the appropriateness, of agriculture and trade policies.
• Examine problems related to the economic and trade activities of individual commodity groups in different countries.
• Examine general statistical data and exchange rates and assess impact on Canadian chicken industry
• Provides analysis on matters pertaining to the tariff rate quota administration system and its implications on the chicken industry.
• Presentations to the Board of Directors and industry stakeholders.
Experience
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of the trade policy and its implications for various domestic stakeholders.
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of the functioning of the multilateral trading system (World Trade Organization) and regional/bilateral free trade agreements.
• Excellent knowledge of trade economics and statistics; ability to analyze trade data and tariffs and to develop impact scenarios.
• Knowledge of trade and agriculture policies of major players in international agriculture negotiations (United States, European Union, Group of 10, Group of 20, Cairns, etc).
• International or government work experience an asset.
• Experience in agriculture or agri-food industry an asset.
This position requires traveling up to 20 days a year
Successful Candidates must have a DEGREE in ECONOMICS, PUBLIC POLICY or a related field
